This year (2021) represents an exciting time for DACS. In January, we launched our individually-tailored, home-based Diversional Therapy program, catering to our invaluable clientele across all of our hubs – from Goulburn, Queanbeyan and Batemans Bay, to the Central Coast of NSW.
Diversional therapy is a client-centered practice which recognises leisure and recreational experiences as the right of each individual. Diversional therapists work with people of all ages and abilities, to design and facilitate leisure and recreation programs that aim to support, challenge and enhance an individual’s psychological, spiritual, social, emotional and physical wellbeing.
Our Diversional Therapy programs offer our clientele the opportunity to pursue various interests and hobbies that they have not performed for a while, or to acquire new skills.
Recently one of our clients, a keen photographer, reignited his passion for photography, by re-learning this valuable skill, which brought much happiness to him and his family. The activity spurred him to walk around his property and snap beautiful photos of his garden, several of which he then printed out and presented to his wife. He is now looking forward to rekindling yet another passion of his – playing a round of golf!
At DACS, we can structure a program to an individual’s interests and hobbies, to support both the client and their family. Providing flexible respite for example, enables a carer to take some time out for a coffee, a haircut, a game of tennis, or to simply go on a walk, which is equally as important as coordinating a programme for the client in our care.
We have a men’s group starting in Goulburn this month (April, 2021), whereby local men will gather together each month to perform a variety of activities, and to engage in some bloke time! We’re currently running a competition to name this Goulburn men’s group.
We welcome all suggestions before June 30, after which we will be voting on a name for the group.
To learn more about our Goulburn men’s group, and/or to submit your suggested name for the group, please contact wellnesscoord@dacs.org.au.
